Artist terms
These terms apply to every song you upload to searchz. You agree to them when you tick the box while uploading. In short: you own your music, you let us offer it in the app (downloads included), and 99% of subscription money is split by listening time: the time people spend on your songs goes to you.
1. Your music
- Only upload songs that are fully yours: you wrote, produced and own the recording and the song, or you have written permission from everyone who does.
- No remixes, edits, mashups or bootlegs of other people's songs, and no samples you haven't cleared.
- Every song is between 1 minute 30 seconds and 9 minutes long.
- No disrespectful songs: no insults, swearing or slurs in the name of a song, album or artist, and no songs that put people down for who they are. Names are checked when you upload, and songs are taken down when they're reported.
2. What you let us do
- You own the music, we license it. By uploading, you give searchz permission to store your song, play it to listeners in the app and on searchz.eu, and make it available for download in the app.
- Listeners can download your songs in the app.
- We show your artist name, the song title and its cover art with it.
- This permission is free, worldwide and not exclusive: you can release your music anywhere else too.
3. Subscriptions
- Subscriptions are optional. Listeners choose how much they pay, starting from €1 a month.
- 99% of subscription money is split by listening time. searchz keeps 1%.
- Each subscriber's money is split by how long they listened that month: to each artist's uploads, and to free music and Apple Music previews, whose share goes to searchz (see 4).
- For App Store subscriptions, what's split is what reaches searchz: Apple first keeps the VAT and its commission.
A subscriber listens to uploads for 30 minutes in a month: 5 minutes to you and 25 minutes to another artist. You get 5/30 of their 99%, the other artist gets 25/30.
A subscriber listens only to your songs all month: you get the full 99%. If they spent half their listening time on free music or Apple Music previews, you get half of it.
4. What goes to searchz
- Listening time on free music (public-domain and Creative Commons songs) and on Apple Music's 30-second previews goes to searchz, in Discover and everywhere else.
- Your songs count for you wherever they play: in Discover, picked in the app, in playlists, on the map, from a download, offline (the app sends offline listening once it's back online, up to 40 days later) and on searchz.eu by a logged-in listener.
- Listening to your own songs doesn't count, a listener counts for at most three full plays of a song a day, and we can leave out listening time that looks automated or fake.
5. Checks and removal
- We check songs before they go live. We can refuse or remove a song that breaks these terms, or when someone shows us it's theirs.
- Listeners can report a song in the app, and anyone can send a notice with the notice form. If we take your song down, your studio says why, and you can reply to tell us we got it wrong.
- You can delete your songs from your studio at any time. Copies that listeners have already downloaded may stay on their devices.
6. Getting paid
- Your studio shows how long people listen to each song, how much of that comes from subscribers, what you've earned and what we've paid out.
- Add where you want to be paid in your studio: an XRP, Solana (SOL) or Litecoin (LTC) address, or a bank account (IBAN) in the SEPA area. We check a bank account first by sending €0.01 with a code in the description, which you type in your studio. Changing your payout details takes your password.
- We pay out at the start of each month for the months before, once you've earned at least €5.00. Less than that carries over to the next month.
- Crypto payouts go out in the coin you chose, at its euro price on the day we send them. Check your address: money sent to the address you gave can't be taken back.
7. Changes
If we change these terms, we'll email you before the change applies to your songs.
