Random song IDs
searchz asks Apple Music for hundreds of random song IDs at a time. Every song in the catalogue has the same chance of showing up, including the millions nobody has heard yet.
searchz is a TikTok-style music feed that refuses to loop. Spotify and YouTube give you more of what you already play. searchz digs through the entire Apple Music catalogue at random, so every swipe is something you haven't heard yet.
Swipe up for the next song
Recommendation feeds study what you play, then suggest whatever listeners with similar taste are already playing. Popular songs get recommended, so they get played, so they get recommended again. Every week, your world gets a little smaller.
You orbit what you already know.
Every swipe lands somewhere new in the catalogue.
Most apps are built to keep you comfortable. searchz is built to make you a crate digger. Here's what happens every time it looks for songs.
searchz asks Apple Music for hundreds of random song IDs at a time. Every song in the catalogue has the same chance of showing up, including the millions nobody has heard yet.
It also searches small styles and record labels, then throws away the top quarter of every answer, where the most-played songs sit. Artists with a big following on ListenBrainz (2,000 listeners or more) are left out.
Every song you've seen is remembered, even when it comes back on another release, and it never shows up in your feed again.
Once an artist has played, the next 25 songs are by someone else. No single artist can take over your feed.
About 3 in 10 songs ignore your taste on purpose, mostly from genres you haven't explored yet. You set how adventurous it gets.
Like hard techno and liquid drum & bass? You get both, not a mushy average of the two. Matches come from around each song you loved.
Open the app and music starts. Every gesture teaches searchz a little about you, without ever closing the door on something new.
Songs from Apple Music play as 30-second previews, which is what Apple allows. Free music and songs artists upload to searchz play whole.
Found one? Save it to a playlist or open it in Apple Music. Songs from searchz download to play offline.
Turn on the map to see what people within 75 m are playing, listen along with them, or say hi.
Search pushes songs you've already had to the end and mixes in finds from the deep end of the catalogue.
searchz keeps a database to learn from how people listen, but mostly to build something bigger: our own music database, and one day our own music library, with music from artists who upload it straight to us.
Subscriptions are optional, and you choose what you pay, starting from €1 a month. It's a way to support the artists who upload their music to searchz: 99% is split by listening time, and the time you spend on an artist's songs goes to that artist, wherever you hear them, Discover included.
Listen to artists' uploads for 30 minutes in a month: 5 to one artist, 25 to another. They get 5/30 and 25/30 of your 99%.
Listen only to one artist's uploads all month, and they get the full 99%. Spend half your time on free music or previews, and they get half: the other half goes to searchz.
Time on free music (public-domain and Creative Commons songs, given away by their makers) and on Apple Music's 30-second previews goes to searchz: there's no one to pay for those through searchz, and it keeps the server running. Your profile shows where your money went.
Where one subscriber's money goes in a month.
Time on free music and Apple Music previews goes to searchz.
Make an account in the searchz app, log in here, upload your songs, and see how long people listen and how much of that comes from subscribers. Songs on our own server play in full in the app, not as 30-second previews.
Building a music library takes a lot of ears. If you want to help, we'd love to hear from you.
